Presentation:
Even if the American version of Thief: Deadly Shadows has all resources needed to play the game in English, French, German and Italian, you have to know that those translations are not perfect, this is why an (official) European version of this game exists containing a bunch of fixes. It is possible to translate the game in different ways, for this, please read the next chapter carefully.

Compatibility:
Steam version: Apply the procedure B.
GOG and European CD/DVD version*: Apply the procedure A or B.
American CD/DVD version*: Apply the procedure B.

How do I verify if I have a European version or not?
Open the "<Install Dir>\System\DEFAULT.INI" file, go to the "[Locale]" section & and read the "AggLanguage" variable. It should be "EURO" for the European version and "NONE" for the original American version. DO NOT CHANGE this variable, unless you have previously installed the corresponding resources (Euro/USA). You do not have to modify this variable after applying my patch, it will be done automatically.

Procedure A:
Open the "<Install Dir>\user.ini" file, find the "[Locale]" section (without the quotes) and enter the word "French" after "Language=". The "user.ini" file should be like this:

Procedure B:
Simply download and apply my patch below.

Security:
This patch was entirely written in Autolt v3, Autolt is certified by Softpedia as being free of spyware/adware/viruses. However, some cases of false positives can be reported, especially from Windows 10 (Windows Defender), ArcaVir and VBA32.

Same as the previous version, but the UPX compression has been removed to reduce Windows Defender alerts (Windows 10). If Windows Defender still reports a false positive, please turn off temporarely the Real-time Protection.
